How To Keep Score
At Galaxy Bowling, our computer automated systems keep score for you. A monitor above your lane keeps track of your parties scores and displays entertaining animations for your amusement (kids love them!). However, it is not a bad idea to know how one would score if automated systems were not available.
1. One game of bowling is divided into 10 frames or 10 turns for each bowler per game.
2. Each turn, the bowler gets two chances to knock down all 10 bowling pins. The results of these two chances are recorded in the two little boxes at the top of each frame on the score sheet.
3. After the first attempt, note the number of pins knocked down in the first little box. The number of pins knocked down on the second attempt are then recorded in the second little box.
4. In the frames main box, record the total of the two little boxes or the total number of pins knocked down from both attempts. That takes care of the first frame.
5. Repeat the same procedure for the second frame of bowling. This time however, you add the previous frames total to the total of the two attempts on this frame to give you the total for this frame.
Got it so far? Good because now it gets interesting. Because if you knock down all the pins in one attempt, you have scored a "strike"! If you do that everytime it's your turn in one game, you will have scored a 300!
6. Record a strike by putting an "X" in the little box for that frame. On that person's next turn, add the 10 points for the strike to the total pins knocked down that turn. Write this number in the totals area for the frame in which the strike was thrown - bonus! Total the knocked down pins in the frame after the strike as in step 4 above. If the next attempt also results in a strike, total 10 points for the first strike, 10 points for the second strike and the number of pins knocked down with the first ball of the next frame.
7. A "spare" is when a bowler knocks down all of the remaining pins on the second attempt of that frame. A spare is recorded with a "/" (a forward slash) in the second little box. On the bowler's next turn, add 10 points for the spare to all the pins knocked down by the first attempt of this turn. Record that total in the main box for the frame in which the spare was thrown.
8. At the end of the game, total each bowler's score, put in an order at the snack bar and bowl another game!
